Tornos-Compatible Titanium Bars

Engineered specifically for Tornos bar feeders and ceramic guide bushings. Prevents collet jamming and bushing premature wear.

Tolerance h7 Mandatory
Surface Finish Ra 0.4μm
Diameter Range Ø3-32mm
Verified Machines Deco 10/20
Tornos Ceramic Bushing Warning: Tornos Deco series uses ceramic guide bushings (standard equipment). Standard h11 tolerance bars WILL cause bushing seizure and chipping. h7 centerless ground bars are NOT optional—they are a functional requirement for this machine.

01 Verified Compatible Tornos Machines

Tornos Deco Series

VERIFIED
  • Deco 10: Single-spindle, bar diameter Ø3-10mm
  • Deco 13: Single-spindle, bar diameter Ø3-13mm
  • Deco 20: Single-spindle, bar diameter Ø3-20mm
  • Deco 26: Single-spindle, bar diameter Ø3-26mm

All Deco models use ceramic guide bushings and high-precision collet bar feeders. h7 tolerance mandatory.

Tornos Swiss DT Series

VERIFIED
  • Swiss DT 13: 7-axis, bar diameter Ø2-13mm
  • Swiss DT 26: 7-axis, bar diameter Ø2-26mm
  • MultiSwiss Series: Multi-spindle (6/8 spindles)

Swiss DT features ceramic-coated guide bushings with tighter tolerances than standard steel bushings.

02 Why Standard Bars Fail in Tornos Machines

Risk Addressed

Bar Feeder Jam & Guide Bushing Seizure

Tornos bar feeders use high-precision collet mechanisms that require consistent rod diameter (h7 tolerance mandatory). Any diameter deviation >0.02mm causes collet slippage or jamming. Additionally, Tornos ceramic guide bushings (standard on Deco series) are sensitive to rod surface finish - rough surfaces (Ra >1.0μm) cause premature bushing wear. ValidTi rods are centerless ground to Ra 0.4μm and inspected to h7, ensuring zero-downtime feeding.

Failure Mode: Collet Jam

Tornos bar feeders use spring-loaded collets to grip and advance the bar. The collet opening must match the bar diameter within ±0.01mm tolerance.

Bar Diameter: Ø10.05mm (h11 tolerance)

Collet designed for Ø10.00mm cannot fully close → bar slips → feeding stops

Bar Diameter: Ø9.99mm (h7 tolerance)

Collet closes securely → consistent feeding → zero unplanned stops

03 Standard vs. Tornos-Optimized Bars

Parameter Standard Turned Bar (h11) ValidTi Tornos-Compatible (h7)
Oxygen (O) Content < 0.10% ~ 0.13% High Toughness; Prevents Fatigue Failure
Iron (Fe) Content < 0.12% ~ 0.25% Superior Biocompatibility & Uniformity
Raw Material Source Grade 0A Virgin Sponge Standard Sponge (Scrap mix) Aerospace Grade Input; Zero Inclusions
Diameter Tolerance ±0.05mm (h11) ±0.01mm (h7)
Surface Finish Ra 1.6-3.2μm (Rough) Ra 0.4μm (Mirror Polish)
Collet Feeding Frequent jamming (every 50-100 parts) Zero jams (lights-out operation)
Ceramic Bushing Life 2,000-3,000 parts (premature wear) 10,000+ parts (extended life)
Machine Downtime High (bar feeder adjustments, bushing replacement) Minimal (scheduled maintenance only)
Cost per Part Higher (downtime + bushing replacement) Lower (continuous production)

04 Protecting Tornos Ceramic Guide Bushings

Tornos Deco series uses ceramic guide bushings (Al₂O₃) as standard equipment. While ceramic offers superior wear resistance compared to steel, it is BRITTLE and sensitive to surface imperfections.

❌ What Damages Ceramic Bushings

  • 1.
    Rough Bar Surface (Ra >1.0μm)

Abrasive friction generates localized heat → thermal shock → micro-cracks → premature failure

  • 2.
    Diameter Variation (>0.02mm)

Bar "wobbles" through bushing → impact loading → chipping at bushing edge

  • 3.
    Contaminated Bar (oil, chips)

Foreign particles act as "grinding paste" between bar and bushing → accelerated wear

✓ ValidTi Protection Strategy

  • 1.
    Mirror-Smooth Surface (Ra 0.4μm)

Centerless grinding produces <1μm surface finish → minimal friction → bushing life extended 3-5x

  • 2.
    Tight Diameter Control (h7)

±0.01mm tolerance → bar runs concentrically → zero impact loading on bushing

  • 3.
    Clean Room Packaging

Bars wrapped in protective film immediately after grinding → zero surface contamination

Ceramic Bushing Replacement Cost

Tornos ceramic guide bushings cost $200-$400 per unit (depending on diameter). Machine downtime for replacement: 1-2 hours. Using h7 tolerance bars can extend bushing life from 2,000 to 10,000+ parts, saving $500-$1,000 per month in replacement costs alone.

ROI Calculation: h7 bars pay for themselves in 2-3 months of continuous production.
